ETRA Sustainable2Wheels Event: register now for participation
On Wednesday 18 September 2013, ETRA organises on the esplanade of the European Parliament in Brussels the fourth edition of Sustainable 2Wheels.
As part of the European Commission’s Mobility week, this event is aimed at showing decision-makers and their staff in European Parliament, Commission, Council and other European institutions, the enormous potential offered by 2Wheels for making urban transport more sustainable.
ETRA expects around 1,000 visitors and hopes to welcome among these visitors many MEPs and one or two Commissioners.
Last year’s event was inaugurated by Environment Commissioner Potoènik.
Sustainable 2Wheels will allow 2Wheel business representatives to enter into an interactive discussion with European decision-makers.
Sustainable 2Wheels is a demonstration of contemporary bicycles, electric bicycles, scooters and motorcycles, particularly suited for urban transport.
Visitors will have ample opportunity to test the vehicles on show.
The demonstration is also open to companies that wish to present modern, innovative components or accessories for urban 2Wheels, cycling services as well as solutions for (electric) cycle parking and cycling infrastructure facilities.
Companies wishing to exhibit at Sustainable 2Wheels can sign up until 31 August. The contribution to the organisation of this event is € 750. For ETRA associated members and retailers the contribution is limited to € 375.
Sustainable 2Wheels also welcomes any project or organisation active in the field of sustainable mobility to present their initiatives on the esplanade.
Last year, Sustainable 2Wheels welcomed just under 20 projects and organisations active in fields varying from public transport over city networks to cyclelogistics. Several mobility departments of the Parliament were also present.
Next to the demonstration and presentation of companies, projects and organisations, ETRA has also scheduled two interactive meetings aimed at starting up a debate between the 2Wheel business and European decision-makers.
These meetings will bring together senior management representatives of 2Wheel companies with MEPs and hopefully also one or two Commissioners on the subject of the 7th Environmental Action Programme on the one hand and Urban Mobility on the other hand.
Klaus Bondam, former Mayor of Copenhagen and “famous” for his sustainable transport policy will be the moderator in these debates.
Furthermore, Sustainable 2Wheels will feature a number of peripheral events. During the demonstration, the Brussels cycling organisation Provelo will guide short bike rides with start and finish at the European Parliament and passing the European Commission and Council.
The route is the one that European policy makers would effectively use should they do their service trips by bike. Also, ETRA invites visitors to Sustainble2Wheels to a bikers’ breakfast and to lunch.
A number of other peripheral events are still under consideration. ETRA is among other things negotiating with Dutch dealer association BOVAG to bring their “Electric Cycling Team” managed by ex-professional cyclist Henk Lubberding to the Esplanade.
