ACEM the European Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (ACEM) has announced the appointment of Antonio Perlot as its new Secretary General, with effect from 1 May 2014.
Mr Perlot was appointed at the ACEM General Assembly in March 2013 and will replace Jacques Compagne (61), who after 10 years at the helm of ACEM will be taking his retirement at the end of July 2014. Mr Compagne will take on the role of Senior Advisor to the ACEM Secretary General and Executive Committee.
An Italian-Swedish national, Mr Perlot (43) has substantial experience in the motorcycle sector and EU interest representation. He has been ACEM Public Affairs Manager since 2006, advising the industry on public and regulatory affairs.
Between 2001 and 2006, he worked for the Federation of European Motorcyclists’ Associations (FEMA), first as Campaigns Officer, then as Secretary General. Prior to that, he worked as an EU public affairs consultant representing clients from different industry sectors and, before then, in the NGO sector.
Mr. Perlot holds a Degree in Political Science (specialisation in European integration) from La Sapienza University, Roma, Italy and a Master’s Degree in Diplomatic Studies (International Relations, International and EU Law, Economic policy) from SIOI, Roma, Italy.

Having worked together with Jacques Compagne for the last eight years, being trusted with his professional legacy is a positive and motivating challenge. With the support of the Secretariat, I am looking forward to continue representing the Motorcycle Industry and developing further the ACEM presence at EU level.”

We have known Antonio for a long time – first as General Secretary at FEMA and then working for ACEM. We would like to believe that in no small way, we (Trevor and Elaine) helped Antonio move towards the position of Secretary General of ACEM that he so rightly deserves. Antonio is one of those rare people who has the quality of professionalism, diplomacy and the ability to work with politicians and stakeholders with the same respect and consideration. The “politics” of Brussels has with Antonio, a player of the highest category. We wish him all the best.

ACEM, the Motorcycle Industry in Europe, is the professional body representing the interests and combined skills of 14 manufacturers of L-category vehicles (mopeds, motorcycles, tricycles and quadricycles) producing more than 30 brands, and 18 national associations out of 15 European countries, employing over 125,000 people.
The aggregated turnover of the sector (manufacturing, plus upstream and downstream activities) amounts to 27 billion euros. ACEM members account for 90% of the European production of L-category vehicles.
